Until August 2002 I was a news reporter for silicon.com, the premiere UK IT-industry website. My beat areas included ebusiness, politics, IT security and other technologies. I was expected to find, research and write news for this fast-moving website. I had to meet both hourly and daily deadlines and was required to find off-diary stories.
I also contributed analysis, feature and leader pieces to the site on a weekly basis.
Working on silicon.com’s video output I gained much experience of presenting and interviewing on camera, and creating video news reports. I have interviewed senior industry figures, such as the CEO of Reuters Peter Job and Trade Secretary Patricia Hewitt on camera.
I joined silicon.com (http://www.silicon.com) in April 1999 as an Editorial Assistant, progressing to Reporter in February 2000, before becoming Senior Reporter in April 2001. I was made redundant in August 2002 after the acquisition of silicon.com by US newswire CNet.
Prior to this I have worked for Estates Gazette Interactive and advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi.
