WORK EXPERIENCE (1989 - 2011)
Feature articles, proposals, press releases, websites, white papers, promotions, advertising, catalogues, newsletters, video and radio scripts… I’ve written all of these and the occasional letter to the editor! Often, I’ve also provided editing services for these projects, turning words on a page into compelling visuals for electronic media. As a freelance creative professional I’ve had the good fortune to work on a wide range of projects and help organizations of all sizes achieve their communications objectives. Most recently, my blog and Youtube channel allow me to take advantage of the Internet’s capability for self-publishing, so that I can develop an online audience and tell the stories that matter to me.
Utilizing an AVID Media Composer editing suite and news production software I wrote and edited news items for Citytv’s three hour morning show, Breakfast Television. I also liaised with producers to decide on content and determine file footage requirements, helped maintain our video library, and made story suggestions for future programs.
Topical Promotions Producer
I was responsible for daily topical promotion production for Citynews at Six including writing, producing, and editing two (2) daily fifteen second advertisements, headline package (first forty-five seconds of the program), in-show bumpers, and a promo for the next day’s coverage. Ratings for Citynews at Six enjoyed a measurable increase in the two years I held this position. Other daily production duties included daily topical radio spots, consolidating raw footage into the AVID video server, and contributing original story ideas in daily story meetings and weekly ‘look-ahead’ sessions.
ENG News Editor
Duties similar to those at Citytv, using a linear tape-based edit suite, as an on-call video editor.
Rogers Cable Advertising
Script writing and video editing for the Homes Plus Network (housing developments).
