I’m a freelance journalist and published author. I have excellent written and verbal communication skills, organisational and time management skills, as well as a very strong work ethic. I enjoy working as part of a team or on my own initiative and thrive under pressure.
Born in the UK, but raised in South Africa where I completed my formal education, I chose to travel Europe after I qualified as an Executive Legal Secretary. I believe I have learned about many different languages, cultures and traditions and have always enjoyed learning new skills from the many wonderful friends I’ve met along the way.
My extensive employment history has helped me to gain experience in a variety of fields including law, healthcare and publishing. After almost a decade with a law firm I transferred to Corporate Banking where I completed a Certificate in Investment Planning (I), before moving to Bruges, Belgium for a number of years with my family where I worked in hospitality. When we returned to Northern Ireland I worked in a medical practice until I published my first novel, last year. I now freelance as a journalist for a few publications while continuing to write novels.
I believe my role as a mum to four amazing children, who range in age from eighteen to eight years old, has given me my most valuable experience and as parent I have obtained a whole new set of skills which I carry into my journalistic role. I currently write a column for Ability NI about life as a parent to an autistic child, and since my second child has autism, this has always been a disability close to my heart.
I was recently commissioned to write an autobiography for a client, and after numerous interviews, the title is now complete and due for release in January 2013.
