Biography

Extensive reporting and writing background spanning nearly 30 years in print, broadcast, and digital media. Report and write on most health topics, with an emphasis on aging and related issues like as chronic disease, health policy, and aging-in-place.

As a Senior Fellow at the Center for Health, Media & Policy at Hunter College in New York City, I focus on older adults and the digital divide. As the newly-named aging core topic leader for the Association of Healthcare Journalists, I aggregate and write about studies, data, trends, key concepts and am the point person on aging for association members.

A partial list of writing credits include Kaiser Health News, New America Media, Women magazine, Home Care Technology Report, The Atlantic online, Discovery Education, Kidshealth.org, and Healthwise Magazine. I have also published in professional journals, including the Journal of Healthcare Information Management, Practical Diabetology and Aeging Research Reviews. I'm a regular contributor to the HealthCetera, blog and to the award-winning HealthStyles radio show (WBAI/Pacifica).

My journalism background includes stints in Boston as a general assignment news reporter for public radio and a writer for all-news radio, and as a TV news associate producer/writer in New York City. Several years in corporate communications helped to sharpen my writing and immersed me in the world of health and wellness. Since 1995, I have flown solo as a writer/reporter.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University and a Master’s in Social Policy, healthcare concentration, from Empire State College, State University of New York. Professional organization membership includes: AHCJ, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Journalism and Women’s Symposium.
