After completing my degree at Cambridge University, I worked for an automotive trade magazine and then moved onto the Road Test Desk at top-selling weekly motoring magazine Auto Express. I spent five years there before leaving to join What Car? I began as News Editor, but worked my way up and, in my seven years there, held the positions of both Deputy and Managing Editor. I first went freelance in 2005, before a second stint at What Car? and then moving to Auto Trader as Cars Editor in 2012, where I also gained considerable experience in presenting video. In my time, I have contributed to titles such as the Daily Express, Used Car Buyer and Test Drive, as well as to several motoring customer magazines, both as a writer and as a sub-editor.
