I have been a freelance medical writer specialising in therapeutics since 1988, working with a very wide range of clients including medical communications agencies, pharmaceutical companies, publishers, the NHS and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
I write for doctors, nurses and pharmacists in primary and secondary care. I have worked in print, online and visual formats, writing features, technical reviews, course materials, conference abstracts, CPD questions, meeting reports, a blog, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, backgrounders and press releases. I have edited and salvaged substandard copy by other authors and worked with KOLs to draft and finalise copy. I have conducted interviews with clinicians and lay people.
I have worked as a freelancer for many agencies, including Wiley Interface, Omega Scientific, Huntsworth Health, Just:Health, Open Health, Munro & Forster, Dynamic Advertising Group, ASH Communications, Chandler Chicco and Porter Novelli.
I am a registered pharmacist.
My career as a hospital and medicines information pharmacist, followed by work as a part-time locum community pharmacist, gave me valuable clinical experience in primary and secondary care. I also acquired a thorough grounding in therapeutics and the interpretation of evidence.
In 1999 I worked (job-sharing) for Newcastle and North Tyneside Health Authority as a pharmaceutical advisor, where I was responsible for writing the health authority’s prescribing strategy. I learned about formulating and implementing prescribing strategies, performance management, monitoring primary care prescribing and developing pharmaceutical services.
