I'm a seasoned travel journalist. I've been a travel writer since I had a column, "The Student Traveler," in my hometown Illinois (USA) newspaper, the State Journal-Register, as a teenager. One of my early stories won the Chicago Tribune's Voice of Youth Award. I also won national poetry awards and essay contests. You can see some of my more recent articles on the Home Page of http://www.nancypistorius.com (including a number of travel pieces written for Kansas City Getaways Examiner). I've written for over 75 different magazines and newspapers, including WOMAN'S DAY, CHICAGO TRIBUNE, and COSMOPOLITAN. I have an MA in English from the University of Illinois. I was formerly on staff at the (now-defunct) SOCIAL KC magazine. I'm a longtime member of the North American Travel Journalists Association and International Travel Writers Alliance. At the moment I write for a variety of outlets, including Springfield's Own (SO) Magazine (a beautiful, full-color, glossy print magazine based in Illinois), Examiner.com (Examiner.com has 18.8 million unique visitors per month), Lawrence Journal-World, Travel World International, VisitKC, and Striped Pot, an online travel zine. I also have a travel writing blog, Writing in the Left-Hand Lane, and am writing a mother/daughter travel guidebook. You can see some of my most recently published stories at http://www.nancypistorius.com/ or at some of the links following this email. My most recent writing award was the 2009 Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award. I currently live in Lawrence, Kansas, USA, and specialize in family travel, female-friendly travel, girlfriend getaways, and mother/daughter travel. My daughter, a professional photographer, takes some of the photos accompanying my articles.
