2006-2010: Editor, Legal Business magazine
My role involved writing, commissioning and editing features, news, leader articles, surveys and being in charge of the editorial direction of the magazine. I managed a team of 8 journalists and liased daily with our production, sales, subscription and art direction departments. A bulging contact book was essential and the global nature of the magazine meant I travelled extensively particularly to New York and within Continental Europe where we had a significant readership amongst the top business law firms. My editorship of LB magazine marked one of the most editorially and commercial successful periods since its inception in 1990. The magazine won numerous Tabbie awards (2006,2007,2008); the Bar Council reporting award (2009) and was highly commended at The Guardian and Private Eye Paul Foot awards for a series of investigative LB articles in 2008. The same year I was short-listed for editor of the year in the highly prestigious British society of Magazine Editors awards. Commercially, the magazine had many of its highest grossing issues during my editorship, growing revenue by over 20% during the second year of my tenure. I also developed a significant external profile being regularly quoted in the national and international press (including the FT, The Times and The Daily Telegraph), chairing panel discussions and being interviewed by broadcast media about LB’s numerous scoops and investigative features.
2005-2006: Associate Editor, Legal Business magazine
2004-2005: City editor, Legal Business magazine
2003-2004: City editor, Legal Week magazine
A fast-paced role that included breaking exclusive new stories on a daily basis, and contributing in-depth features and leaders. I was also heavily involved in editing and commissioning copy from other reporters. A high-quality contacts book was essential as was an ability to hit tough daily deadlines for both the print and on-line editions of the magazine.
