I joined the Royal Navy when I left school, and later became a professional yacht skipper.
I was the technical Editor of Motor Boat and Yachting for ten years 1987-1997.
I'm now freelance, but still work regularly for Motor Boat and Yachting.
Other titles in which my work has appeared include Yachting World, Yachting Monthly, Practical Boat Owner, Sailing Today, RIB International and Sail (USA).
I have written over a dozen books, including the RYA Navigation Handbook, the RYA VHF Handbook, and the Adlard Coles Book of Electronic Navigation., and have written the scripts for numerous technical/training videos.
I also undertake technical writing such as instruction manuals.
I am a Yachtmaster Instructor (Power), Advanced Powerboat Trainer, VHF/SRC Instructor/Assessor, and regularly run radar instructor courses for the RYA
