The NCTJ course that I’ve just completed has given me an excellent set of skills in production journalism and enriched my understanding of writing in the media. The emphasis was on subediting, something to which I am well suited. Editing, re-writing, headlines ‘n’ deadlines, page layout and design; I am strong in all of these aspects and, as a committed writer, I’m someone who is comfortable with language. The course also sharpened my focus, making me fast, accurate and efficient.
I have developed a good eye for news, tone and style. Hard news is one thing, but I am also at home with magazines and feature-writing; I enjoy the colour that these disciplines allow the writer, and the editor.
I’m looking for work as a subeditor and I would be happy in any market sector, especially sport, food and wine, music, travel or current affairs.
I’d just like to add that I’m a quick learner, I have experience of Quark, InDesign and Hermes (I see the skills learnt on one system being easily transferable to another), and I’m a diligent and resourceful individual.
