For 22 years I worked for the National Youth Agency, during which time I launched, wrote for and eventaully for five years edited Young People Now magazine, a monthly for youth workers . When this was bought out by Haymarket in 2003, I continued as Consultant Editor, and later Associate Editor of its supplement Youth Work Now.
I also created and edited some 26 issues of The Edge, a quarterly magazine on youth affairs for elected members. I have also written for sector magazines and journals including Youth Today (USA), Youth and Policy and Rapport. During time at the NYA Ialso acted as press officer and have plenty of experience writing releases, acting as spokesperson, handling live radio interveiewss and the rest of it.
In a separate career, I have also been restaurant critic for the East Midlands editon of Metro for five years. This has led to roles such as judge in restuarant award schemes in Nottinghamshire , Leicestershire and Rutland, and media appearances including Great British Menu on BBC 2 and local radio in the East Midlands. I have also written a number of brochures for tourism body Leicestershire Promotions.
