|Full name||Jo Allen|
I am a freelance journalist with over eight years' experience writing about the international cosmetics and toiletries industry. I have reported on everything from the newest fragrance trends to the latest luxury anti-ageing creams, interviewing dozens of leading industry experts along the way. I have covered all angles of the cosmetics industry, including ingredients and packaging, and am also an experienced market report writer and researcher. In addition, I have specialist knowledge of the French cosmetics industry. I was named Johnson & Johnson Best Trade Beauty Journalist in 2004, and won the runner-up prize in the 2009 awards. I am available for a wide variety of editorial work, including freelance feature and news writing, market research and report writing, editing, sub-editing and proof reading.

After graduating from the University of East Anglia with a degree in European and Social Studies I started my career in journalism in contract publishing, working on the supermarket customer title ASDA magazine.
Moving into trade journalism, I started reporting and sub-editing for travel retail magazine Frontier, writing about luxury goods including fashion, jewellery and leathergoods. I then turned my attention to specialist consumer magazine Car Hifi (which later relaunched as InCars magazine) working as Assistant Editor, often while being subjected to volumes up to 100 decibels (equivalent to a plane taking off...)
The idea of swapping cars for cosmetics seemed appealing so in 2001 I joined established trade magazine Soap, Perfumery & Cosmetics (SPC) as deputy editor and I have written about the cosmetics and toiletries business ever since, for magazines including SPC's sister title European Cosmetic Markets.
Currently a freelance journalist, I regularly write features/reports for European Cosmetic Markets, Luxury Avenue magazine and Mintel.
