I've been a journalist since 1998, and freelance since April 2002. Prior to that I edited two sector-specific, bi-monthly B2B IT magazines, Financial Sector Technology (now FSTech) and Retail Systems. I am a regular contributor to magazines including economia, FSTech, Retail Systems, Cable & Satellite International, Pensions Age, European Pensions, Continuity Insurance & Risk, Charity Times, Connections and Britain magazine; and to the Cambridge Judge Business School website. I am also co-author of a book on the history of steam railways in Britain: British Steam Engines (Igloo Books 2010).
Other publications to which I have contributed articles include Heritage, Mobile Europe, Pregnancy Baby & You, New Business, New Video Technology, Pay, International Custody & Fund Administration, StrategicRISK and the Money section of the Guardian website.
Subbing experience has included regular work as a features sub-editor at the Daily Mirror until 2010 (when the function was outsourced to the Press Association), as well as spells subbing at The Publican, Stuff and Insurance Age.
Copywriting work has included advertorials, press releases, case studies, white papers, text for brochures and websites, and articles for in-house magazines. I have also written copy for sponsored supplements published in the Daily Telegraph.
In previous lives I have been an insurance salesman, a shop assistant, and, in the words of an ex-girlfriend: “some kind of a bum”. I am now much more respectable and live in domestic bliss in Winchester, Hampshire, with my partner and our two children.
