Heba Hashem is an Arabic and English-speaking freelance journalist based in the United Arab Emirates.
Her passion for the media industry was first ignited over eight years ago and since then her printed work has been prolific. Heba’s articles, which continue to span industries and continents, can be found, not least among the pages of Shawati (Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage magazine) and Gulf News.
Exclusive interviews and analysis pieces she has penned have also featured in Oryx Qatar Airways; Open Skies and Portfolio Emirates Airlines, in addition to Global Citizen and Kanoo World Traveller.
Skilled in the interview techniques to turn her hand to any subject matter, Heba is au fait with sectors from lifestyle and retail to Islamic finance and nuclear energy. She counts interviews with Mark Fuller, London hotelier and restaurateur; Abdullatif Alsayegh, owner of Alsayegh Media; and Dr. Hessa Al Jaber, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of ictQATAR, among the most important in her extensive back-catalogue.
With an expertise in culture, travel and the arts, Heba first cut her teeth on the industry working for a Cairo-based monthly city guide. After which, she spent time embedded in PR agencies working with clients like the world-class hospitality group Meydan, and on projects such as the globe’s leading equestrian race, the Dubai World Cup.
With a keen eye for what makes a good story and headline, Heba’s knowledge of global editorial standards, sound communication through soundbites and the value of perfect translation, have proved invaluable in the regional media training sessions she frequently assists with.
Heba holds a B.A. in Communications & Media Studies from Middlesex University and a B.A. in English-Arabic translation from Cairo University. She is a member of the esteemed Chartered Institute of Journalists in the United Kingdom since 2009.
