I've been writing about business since 1996, when I joined (the VNU era) BusinessAge magazine as a staff writer. After VNU bailed on the magazine, I spent 18 months - from launch to closure - as business editor on Business Computer World; then I became deputy editor at Financial Director magazine under Andy Sawers.
He was seconded to a web project two years after I joined, leaving me as acting editor for six months. That resulted in me being headhunted by Caspian Publishing in 2000 to launch Real Finance magazine, also a title aimed at FDs. Widely considered to be the brightest, most accessible publication for an audience more used to being treated as rather dull, RF was a true "people's publication", placing an emphasis on best *practial* practice rather than either patronising or intimidating its readers.
While at RF, I also launched the highly successful FDs' Satisfaction Survey which morphed into the FDs' Excellence Awards. I compered the awards in its first two years, as well as scripting the event, administering the judging process and co-ordinating PR activity,
I'm now writing for a variety of business publications, helping companies communicate with clients and the media in language they'll understand and chairing seminars and conferences for the business community.
