I have been writing about architecture for more than 20 years, and have been freelancing since October 2008. I now also edit Landscape, the journal of the Landscape Institute, and am responsible for its online news.I have also been developing an interest in lighting.
I can write about all aspects of architecture and construction, but particularly enjoy technical issues, and also writing about people. I will happily undertake anything from a single feature to managing an entire publication. I am both imaginative and meticulous and have a fantastic range of contacts.
Until October 2008 I worked for The Architects' Journal in a number of roles, including deputy editor, editor of the monthly AJ Specification, and online editor.
I am the author of six books: Wood Architecture; Wood Houses; Micro; Extreme Architecture; Timber in Refurbishment; 10 Principles of Architecture. I have written two essays for the forthcoming book 'Architecture the Whole Story'.
Publications for which I have worked as a freelance includeAircraft Interiors, AJ Specification, The Architects' Journal, The Architectural Review, Auditoria, Building Design, Building Sustainable Design, The Guardian, Ingenia, Lighting, Luminous, MADE, Passenger Terminal World, Plan, Professional Motorsports Circuit, Railway Terminal World, RIBA Journal, Specification, Stadia, Winter Sports Technology International and Wood Planet. I have run the website for the World Architecture Festival, and have written for architects, engineers, contractors, product manufacturers and industry bodies. I am also good at chairing events and compering awards. I have given CPD presentations on 'How not to have an awful website' and did my first university lecturing in 2013, on timber in refurbishment.
