I'm a townie-turned-country girl, born and brought up in a terraced house in Merthyr Tydfil, in the South Wales valleys. Twelve years ago, I knew nothing about farming, but I now have a successful smallholding near Caerphilly, 800ft up a windswept mountain, where I have a herd of prize-winning Tamworth pigs (yes, the big ginger ones) and a variety of other animals. The pigs have twice won the coveted Tamworth Champion of Champions - the best Tamworth in the UK.
My career began in newspapers, as a reporter and feature writer, before moving to TV to work as a producer/director for an independent company, and later to the BBC.
I now work largely from home, combining writing with TV and radio work. Bliss!
